WHAT KIND OF MEMORIES WILL WE LEAVE BEHIND US?

A New Year seems a good time to resolve to create special memories that we will be able to leave behind us to bless others.  If the past year has found us less than faithful in this regard, let us leave it with the Lord and press on as we lay hold of the God-given opportunities that lie before us. What kind of influence will we leave when our time on earth has ended? What will be our legacy?  Will the memories our family and friends have of us encourage them to godly living and to press on in faithfulness?

This New Year, or even this new day, we may have the opportunity to right a wrong that we have committed.  We surely have an opportunity to do something good for someone to cheer them on. We are urged in Galatians 6:10, “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.” Yes, today could be the day that we exercise some of the beautiful traits that the Apostle Paul lists in 1 Corinthians 13:1-13 on Love in ac-tion. What a wonderful legacy we could leave in the memory of others, if when they read these words, they think of us?

“If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.  If I have the gift of prophecy and can understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.      If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain noth-ing.”

•    Love is patient.
•    Love is kind.
•    Love does not envy,
•    Love does not boast.
•    Love is not proud.
•    Love is not rude.
•    Love is not self-seeking.
•    Love is not easily angered.
•    Love keeps no rec-ord of wrongs.

•    Love does not de-light in evil but re-joices with the truth.
•    Love always pro-tects.
•    Love always trusts.
•    Love always hopes.
•    Love always perse-veres.
•    Love never fails.

May this year and each year be a time of resolve to express God’s love in such a way as to leave only precious memories behind us so that others
will be encouraged to greater faithfulness.

if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
